Express Entry: CRS changes for Canadian work experience and job offers (November 3, 2026)
IRCC is changing how Comprehensive Ranking System points are awarded for Canadian work experience and job offers in high-wage occupations. Here is what changes, with IRCC’s figures.
IRCC announced in October 2026 that new Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) rules take effect on November 3, 2026. They change how Canadian work experience and job offers earn points.
A new labour market integration factor
Candidates now get points for either Canadian work experience or a qualifying job offer, not both. The system keeps whichever gives the higher score. The factor is capped at 150 points.
Canadian work experience
Experience still earns points by length: up to 80 points without a spouse or partner (40 for one year, rising to 80 for five or more) and up to 70 with one (35 rising to 70).
On top of that, at least 12 months (1,560 hours) of Canadian experience in an eligible high-wage occupation adds:
- 70 points where the occupation’s median wage is at least twice the national average;
- 40 points at 1.5 times;
- 20 points at 1.3 times.
Whether an occupation is high-wage depends on its National Occupational Classification (NOC) code, not on your own salary. Hours from several jobs only count up to the equivalent of full-time work.
Job offers
- Qualifying job offers in high-wage occupations earn 100, 70 or 50 points, depending on the wage level.
- A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is no longer required for a job offer to count, and having one doesn’t add points.
- Officers check that the offer is genuine when you submit your permanent residence application.
- Job offers used to qualify for the Federal Skilled Worker or Skilled Trades programs aren’t limited to high-wage occupations.
Recalculation and paused rounds
IRCC recalculates existing profiles automatically, which may take up to two weeks. Invitation rounds pause during that time. If you want job offer points, update your profile with the required details.
What doesn’t change
- A CRS score is a ranking, not an eligibility decision. You still need to qualify for one of the three programs.
- IRCC still sets the type and cut-off of every round.
- Skill transferability points are unchanged.
